Action (Portfolio Action) is a condition expression that determines how the Additional Column set up on the Additional Column tab (see above) will be populated.

Actions can be assigned to any node of the Portfolio at any level and may vary from one node to another depending on what you want the additional column to display in one or other transaction group.

Actions can refer to data in the fields in the original source table or to data in other additional columns generated as results of their own actions in the process of the Portfolio execution.

Action constitutes SET or UPDATE performed on an SQL expression, containing references to columns either in the Source or in the Destination table.

Action Setup Examples

Let us assume that we need the following events to happen during the Portfolio execution:

The contents of the original source column with Default Probability data should migrate to the newly created Additional field we designated as pd.

The contents of the column with Guarantor Default Probability data should migrate to the newly created Additional field we designated as pd_gty.

Note: The above two steps are designed to avoid excessive referencing to the original source in the third step but perform data consolidation “locally”.

The data from the above two additional fields should be consolidated in the third additional field we designated as pd_final as following:

If the Default probability is zero, the guarantor default probability value is taken. If Guarantor default probability is zero, the Default probability value is taken. If Default Probability and Guarantor default probability do not equal zero, the lesser of the two values is taken.

To set up the action for the Default Probability column:

1. Action should be SET unless you were planning on using Long Query execution algorithm, in which case the action should be UPDATE.

 2. Destination table is PORTFOLIO

 3. Use the arrow button menu to select pd as the Destination Column name;

 4. Right-click on the Source Expression field and select $facility_aggr.pd column from the lookup.

This concludes the setting up the action that will result in populating the newly created pd column with the contents of the facility_aggr.pd of the original source table (Fig.).

To set up the action for the Guarantor Default Probability column:

1. Action should be SET, unless you are planning on using Long Query execution algorithm in which case the action should be UPDATE

2. Destination table is PORTFOLIO

3. Use the arrow button menu to enter pd_gty as the Destination Column name;

4. Right-click on the Source Expression field and select $guaranty_aggr.pd column from the lookup.

 This concludes the setting up the action that will result in populating the newly created pd column with the contents of the guaranty_aggr.pd column of the original source table (Fig.).

To set up the action for the Final Default Probability column:

1. Action should be on SET, unless you are planning on using Long Query execution algorithm in which case the action should be UPDATE.

2. Destination table is PORTFOLIO

3. Use the arrow button menu to enter pd_final as the Destination Column name;

4. In the Source Expression column enter the following expression: CASE WHEN $TARGET.pd = 0 THEN $TARGET.pd_gty WHEN $TARGET.pd_gty = 0 THEN $TARGET.pd WHEN $TARGET.pd > $TARGET.pd_gty THEN $TARGET.pd_gty ELSE $TARGET.pd END

Note: Use Right-click to select the column names from the lookup

This action will do the following:

If the Default probability is zero, the guarantor default probability value will be taken.

* If Guarantor default probability is zero, the Default probability value will be taken.

* If Default Probability and Guarantor default probability do not equal zero, the lesser of the two values will be taken.

This step concludes the action setup for the pd_final column as well as the Actions setup as a whole for the Sample Portfolio. At this point, your Actions Tab’s grid should look like shown in the illustration below (Fig.).

Source Condition Setup

Let us further assume that we would like to exclude Banking Treasury from the above actions. To do this we have to set up the Source condition (last field in the Actions tab’s grid). To do this:

1. Scroll to the right to the Source condition field and press  button. The Condition dialog window opens (Fig.).

2. Use  button to open the menu and select the condition type you want (Single Value for instance). The Condition pane appears in the Dialog window (Fig.).

3. Press  button and select the Profit Center column you want to use as a criterion (Fig.).

4. Press  the arrow button and select the != (not equal) logical operator from the menu.

5. Press  button and select Banking Treasure from the lookup (Fig.).

6. Click OK to close the Condition Dialog. The condition is displayed in the Source Condition field of the Actions Tab’s grid (Fig.).

This condition will exclude Banking Treasury from the effect of the Actions defined for this particular additional column.

Note: The same condition could also be applied to the Destination Table by using Destination Condition function that operates identically to the one described above.
